Hoagland, owner and founder of Hoaglandscape, was born in Hartford, Conn. He opened Hoaglandscape in 2002. From the inauspicious beginnings of working out of the back of a small pick-up truck, he has transformed the company into one of the region’s most-trusted and highly regarded landscaping businesses. His priorities for clients are quality and value.
Hoagland grew up in Greensboro and graduated with a communications degree from Appalachian State University in 1985, placing among the nation’s “Who’s Who Among the Nation’s Colleges and Universities.”
As a sportswriter, he won a N.Y. Times Chairman’s Award with the Spartanburg Herald-Journal in 1987. His primary coverage responsibilities were local colleges and NASCAR racing. He later served as a freelance writer for the Associated Press covering the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.
In 1991, he entered a career in public relations and served as Pontiac’s NASCAR spokesman for nine years on the circuit. During this time he worked with such championship drivers as Richard Petty, Rusty Wallace, Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart. He retired from the NASCAR arena in 2000.
Hoagland is an avid sports enthusiast, regularly attending games at Appalachian State. In 2008, he served as president of the school’s Yosef Club Advisory Board, overseeing the athletic scholarship fund-raising organization. He also enjoys reading Stephen King novels and books concentrating on World War II’s Eastern Front.
Hoagland married his wife and business partner, Christie, in May of 1995. She is instrumental in the planning and development of Hoaglandscape. She also works for Bank of America’s “green” efforts at going paperless. Brian and Christie have no children, but adore spoiling their dogs “Bella” and “Fiddle.” |
